Your travel by train from Venice to Milan
Trenitalia’s network stretches across Italy with the Frecce Italian domestic trains. The Frecciabianca (White Arrow) trains travel at high speed and take just over 2h30 between Venice and Milan. On board there are comfortable air conditioned carriages with snacks and drinks in-seat and at the buffet car. First class passengers enjoy a hot drink, newspaper and snacks.
Venezia Mestre is one of Venice’s train stations but the main one, across the causeway, is Santa Lucia, which is also served by Italian domestic trains. The busy train station, Milano Centrale sees 600 trains a day to major cities across Italy on the broad Trenitalia network. Onward travel to other countries is also possible with international trains leaving regularly. There are good public transport connections as well as taxis to get to hotels, restaurants and meetings in the city.
Between two cities in Italy a point to point ticket is the cheapest option. However if travellers want to explore more of Italy there are some rail passes which will offer more flexibility and freedom such as the Eurail Italy Pass, as well as international rail passes too.
Visit Milan and discover other popular train journeys
Milan is Italy’s capital of fashion and many visitors will enjoy browsing the high end designer boutiques and big fashion names on the main shopping streets and enjoy watching the Milanese go about their daily business from the terrace of a café. Milan is also home to sculptures by the incredible Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci’s awesome Last Supper and many more historic and beautiful buildings.
Destinations on Trenitalia’s network include popular routes such as Rome-Naples, Milan-Bologna and Rome-Milan, but don’t forget the mountain villages and the islands of the Italian coast.
Reviews & ratings Venice - Milan
"Value for money!"Ra b.
Five of us travelled from Venice to Milan with lots of luggage. We booked 2nd class so didn't expect any help with our luggage. We have a motto "only take what you can carry yourself" The luggage rack area was safe and easily accessible. We had seats facing each other with a table which was ideal. Comfy seats, plenty of room was just what we needed. The online booking was so simple. Will definitely recommend.
