Travel inspiration in Paris and Avignon

Paris, the capital of France

One of the world’s greatest cities, Paris! The capital of France is also known as the City of Light. This enchanting city, at the crossroads of cultures, is the capital of fashion and home to world highlights such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Avenue des Champs Elysées, to name but a few. In terms of architectural beauty, art history, events, gastronomy and sheer extravagance, Paris is a milestone ahead of any other city on earth. Paris has one of the world’s most extensive public transport systems. You can take a taxi if you are not much of an adventurer, but that would be a pity! Metro (subway or underground), buses and city bicycles are much more fun and are very easy to use, even for beginners.

Avignon, the city of Popes

Avignon is located in the Provence region, on the left flank of the Rhône River and is home to more than 500,000 people. Avignon can be reached from main cities like Paris (2h40 trip), Lyon (1h trip) or Marseille (30 minutes trip).

Avignon invites you to share its lifestyle and superb heritage. With its bridge, the Palace of the Popes, testimony to its prestigious past as Capital of Christianity in the Middle Ages, Avignon offers grandiose architecture, with several monuments ranked among UNESCO’s World Heritage. Avignon offers numerous possibilities for sightseeing, activities and events. Tourists can also discover plenty of attractive shops, Provençal cooking, local specialities and the Côtes du Rhône wines… The Mont Ventoux, the lavender fields and all the beauty of Provence is on the doorstep of Avignon.

"Fast and efficient!"

  Emily y.
We took the train from Paris to Reims for champagne tours and it was quiet, comfortable, fast and fun! I recommend!

"A great train trip"

  Willa s.  12/04/2014
As on previous CDG trips, this one was great- arrival and departure right on time, comfortable seating and the wonderful convenience of leaving from the airport., Our only problem was in booking - I didn't take note ot the site I booked (and paid ) on so when an email of confirmation did not arrive, I was unable to track our tickets and had to re-book and re-pay.

"Zurich to Paris by TGV"

  Vaughan h.  12/04/2014
Nice fast trip in comfortable seating. Good range of food in the dining car, helpful staff.

"Paris long weekend"

  Stewart g.  10/04/2014
Easy to book, fast and reliable the TVG was exactly what you would expect from a premier rail service. The return journey on the ICE was good but not equal to the TGV experience. I would and have happily recommended the service to friends.

"Train from Rennes to CDG "

  Barbara m.  13/12/2013
I booked in advance and managed to obtain return first class tickets at a good price. The journeys were fast, smooth, warm, quiet and comfortable. I look forward to many more train journeys in the future.

Booking a Eurostar train from Paris Gare Du Nord to London St Pancras was easy and fast. However, we were unable to choose our seats and we got a back facing seat. It was quite uncomfortable and we didn't like siting back facing. It would be good if Rail Europe allow choosing of seats on the website.

"Aachen to Paris"

  Marc p.  10/12/2013
We traveled to Germany with my husband on business. It was very convenient to get to the Aachen train station and then to Paris. The train station in Paris was 2 blocks from our hotel. The ease of taking the train helped make the trip memorable. The train was clean and neat and the seat have adequate room if you have to travel for long periods of time.

"Eurostar - Paris to London"

On time, comfortable - excellent. With RailEurope we paid in NZ dollars before our trip assisting with our budget and found that the price we paid was by far the least expensive fare available.

"Paris to Lourdes trip"

  Gnanasekaran c.  05/12/2013
We travelled from Paris to Lourdes by First Class. The heater was not working efficiently and so we were feeling cold. The train was delayed by 3 hours and 30 minutes. The announcements could also be in English in addition to French, since it is difficult for Foreigners like us to follow. The couchette was comfortable to lie. Thanks to the complimentary breakfast.

"Amsterdam to Paris"

  Kunal s.  04/12/2013
Trip was nice with train leaving and arriving on time. However, they could do better by providing WiFi access in Second class. Book early and you may get First Class at the price of Second Class.

"Trip from Paris to Brusells "

  Moazzam r.  02/12/2013
The trip on the Thalys Euro train from Paris to Brussels was an amazing experience, with the high speed train leaving the departing station on time and arriving slightly ahead of time as well - very punctual indeed compared to the rail service in other parts of the world. Keep up the good work. As first class passenger I was expecting better meal service with greater variety on the train. The food quality served during the trip definitely has room for improvement. Overall the seat were very comfortable, the ticketing staff
