Travel inspiration in Marseille and Paris
Marseille, the capital of Provence region
Marseille is the oldest French city and the second most important city in France after Paris. Marseille is located on the southeast coast of France in the Provence region. The city is known for its harbour, sunny climate and beautiful coastline. The natural beauty of Marseille is reflected by its parks and calanques. This explains why Marseille has retained a particular village feel. From the historic Panier district to the Romanesque churches, the city is full of treasures. The famous Notre Dame de la Garde, which overlooks the city from the top of a hill, is not be missed.
Paris, the capital of France
One of the world’s greatest cities, Paris! The capital of France is also known as the City of Light. This enchanting city, at the crossroads of cultures, is the capital of fashion and home to world highlights such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and Avenue des Champs Elysées, to name but a few. In terms of architectural beauty, art history, events, gastronomy and sheer extravagance, Paris is a milestone ahead of any other city on earth. Paris has one of the world’s most extensive public transport systems. You can take a taxi if you are not much of an adventurer, but that would be a pity! Metro (subway or underground), buses and city bicycles are much more fun and are very easy to use, even for beginners.
Reviews & ratings Marseille - Paris
We had been delayed for 2 hours from Paris to Marseille due to bad weather. SNFC compensated us a supplement box which contains some food.
It will be good if the announcement can be in English in addition to the French like in most Airline.
Fast, convenient, but getting old. It is time to renew.
The only drawback i can say is that for a traveller with heavy luggages, it is difficult to carry them upstairs . It is better if there will be easier way to lift the luggages at the upper deck.
We expected the air condition comfort of tgv, and got RER _ we made the most of it with the great family atmosphere and chatting to everyone in our compartment - it was hot though - that is life!!
Online booking was fast and hassle-free. Train staff were very helpful and friendly. Easy, on-time, clean, train travel from Paris to Marseille. Would definitely recommend to others.
We went to Marseille from Paris by TGV train. We enjoyed the experience on the train.
got us to Marseille pretty quick. no complaints
Convenient, comfortable, mild prices when buying in advance (3 months). However, was very surprised, when revealed a lot of first class seats, while I was suggested only 2nd class, thus, more expensive tickets. The only complain- the web site was not user friendly- was forced to contact hot line to purchase the tickets and later to print them (the tickets were sent to my email)
Punctual in departing and arrival time, clear information and instruction at station, on website and in ticket package, however, information in coach is insufficient, especially about name and time to upcoming stations Toilet in coach is unclean
The only problem we had was that we were allocated Coach No.3. and when we walked the length of the train we could not find a Coach 3, Then we were told that the coach would be No.1. as we were First Class and then we had to locate the correct coach as there was no way to tell which coach had our seat numbers. We are an elderly couple with luggage from 6 weeks travelling so did not appreciate the extra legwork required to locate the correct coach. The date was in fact 2013-08-28.
The trip was great, just before Vallance we had an unscheduled stop, which was due to "Un Personne sur La Ligne", we stopped for about an hour at Vallence and then continued on. However after about 10 mins it was decided we couldn't continue and we went back to Vallance, by a different route and to a different station. We waited for another 20minutes and then continued at much greater speed through Burgundy and ended up in Paris only an hour late. WE were given free water and coffee and I think could have applied for a replacement ticket, but we didn't. At all times we were kept well informed.
Journey was quite fast, but not so comfortable because my carriage had a lack of space and light, and there was no wi-fi. So in general this trip was a little overrated.
Being from South Africa, we are not used to public transport that works this smoothly! I actually cannot understand why the French even bother to fly - this was quicker than it would have been to fly (considering waiting time at the airport), more comfortable than an aeroplane seat and extremely convenient. And how lovely to be able to walk around, and get a meal of your choice! I would definitely travel like this again!
More and clearer train schedule information at platform is preferred. Overall comfortable.
