Travel inspiration in Geneva and Lyon
Geneva, the second largest Swiss city
Geneva is the second most important city of Switzerland. It is located alongside Lake Geneva, Europe’s largest lake, at the foot of the Jura Mountains. The city of Geneva is home to a number of headquarters to several international organisations such as the United Nations (UN) and the Red Cross. This makes Geneva one of the few global cities with an important financial centre. Geneva is also a popular tourist destination mainly for two reasons. Geneva is a dream city thanks to a unique setting and a magnificent view of Mont-Blanc, the highest peak in Europe. The countryside, the perfect place for outdoor activities, is only a few minutes away from the city. Geneva is the best starting point to visit rest of Switzerland thanks to an excellent public transport connection.
Lyon, the capital of French gastronomy
Proud of its history – Lyon was once the capital of the Gauls – the city offers an original trip back in time and through cultures. Gastronomy, culture, fêtes, nature, silk, light... you name it! Lyon has it! Besides being known for its culinary and architectural heritage, Lyon is also renowned for its effervescent cultural scene. The most appealing event of the city is the Festival of Lights, which takes place during four nights in December.
Reviews & ratings Geneva - Lyon
it takes 2 hr to go from geneve to lyon is too slow using TGV.
With little signs in english on the train platform it was slightly hard to find my way around, but it was manageable. Trains were comfortable.
The stations and train platforms were easy to find - journey was also very comfortable
Bought the ticket for the speed train but had to take a common train due to breakdown of the train track. We missed our connecting train to Milan as a result.
We recently travelled as above... the journey to Geneva was not easy as SNCF decided to finish the trip at a station well before Geneva !!! Eventually order prevailed ( there were a lot of non-fluent trevellers, and we were led to another train. This of course meant substantial delays for everyone on the train. The train inquestion was fairly old and not all that comfortable. However, the return trip was another story... a very comfortable train, left on time - arrived on time. Not your fault at Rail Europe.. just one of those things. We have booked with you before, and will be using you again. Bill
very reliable, quick, comfortable and on time. arrived relaxed in geneva main station...
A very pleasant trip through the French country-side in a near-empty train.
