Travel inspiration in Florence and Vienna
Florence, the capital of Tuscany region, Italy
Florence (Firenze in Italian) is nestled within the Tuscan region of northern Italy and surrounded by rolling vineyards and olive groves. Visitors are just as beguiled by the beauty of the city itself as they are by the paintings and sculptures found in its many museums. The city was home to many well-known artists, writers, explorers, and scientists. Amongst its most famous residents were Leonardo da Vinci, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo and Galileo. Famous for its rich history and considered as the birthplace of Renaissance the city is nowadays a popular tourist destination and is ranked as a UNESCO World heritage site. Many of Florence’s churches are works of art in themselves. The most famous of the city’s churches is the Santa Maria del Fiore, known simply as the Duomo.
Vienna is the capital city of Austria and home to approximately 1,6 million inhabitants. Vienna is the seat of many multinationals and is becoming more and more important as a centre for trade between Western and Eastern Europe. Vienna is also a city of green parks, calm, dreamy alleys, art and music. This city is rightly deemed a city worth living in, being a cosmopolitan city of culture and gastronomy.
Reviews & ratings Florence - Vienna
I was connecting to this service from the train from Wien Meidling. However because the Wien Meidling to Firenze train was so far behind schedule I did not arrive in time for my booked trip to Roma Termini. A rail officer on the platform in Firenze told me to stay on the same train to Termini. Therefore I cannot comment on the high speed train service.
Firstly delivery of my tickets after online purchase was very efficient and convenient. However the trip itself was very disappointing and ended up costing me several hundred dollars extra. The train was late leaving Wien Meidling so that passengers were left standing in the freezing cold for more than 30 mins. I had been allocated a seat that was actually unavailable as the compartment was reserved for staff (2 male rail staff who joined the train some hours later). An attended let me in the locked compartment after I stood in the corridor for some time. Later (after midnight) I was woken up and spoken to harshly for being in the seat (that was on my ticket). I had to move to share a compartment with a young man (I am a middle aged female). I arrived in Firenze much too late to make the connection on the high speed train and was told by a rail employee to stay on the same [slow] train to Termini. Instead of arriving at 08:30 I arrived at about 11:05 am - too late to get to the airport for my flight to Australia departing at 12:25 pm. I had to re-book a later flight at considerable additional expense. Overall I have to say that the trip was very disappointing.
