Nowadays, the comfort of the TGV, the “Train à grande Vitesse”, makes you realize how difficult it might have been to travel prior to the creation of this high-speed train in 1981.
Every year, TGV trains services transport over 130 million passengers to more than 1400 destinations.
Within the borders of France, TGV trains connect some 150 major cities and towns. Among the most popular journeys, you could reach Bordeaux from Paris in just 3 hours, the time you need to finish off this lovely novel you’ve been intending to complete days ago…
The south-west of France lovers will also enjoy travelling with TGV from Paris to Toulouse: time travel between the two cities is just 5 hours and 13 minutes.
Are you desperate for some sun? Avignon is located 2 hours and 40 minutes from Paris whereas, if you want to go a little bit deeper in the South of France, you can reach Marseille from Paris in only 3 hours and 04 minutes with a TGV train.
No need to wait until the end of December to see Strasbourg very famous Christmas market and its talented craftsmen: located just 3 hours from Paris thanks to the launch of the TGV Est, Strasbourg is lovely to visit any time of the year.
…And so is Lille: with just over 1 hour, taking a TGV train from Paris to this Northern French town is even quicker than your daily commuting train!
Brittany lovers will also be pleased to know that TGV connects Paris to Nantes in only 2 hours and 8 minutes. Pretty sure it will not take you long to decide what to do over the next week-end…

But if you’re looking for a little bit more surprise, you can even cross the borders of France to get to a vast selection of foreign towns and cities. Good to know that TGV trains also connect France with Belgium, Switzerland and Germany, where you can easily decide to continue your journey with other European high-speed services and rail networks.
You will be amazed to discover that travel time between European destinations could be incredibly short. Judge for yourself: by travelling on a TGV train, Paris CDG is over 1 hour from Brussels whereas you could connect sunny Avignon and Geneva in Switzerland in only 2 hours and 53 minutes.
Want to reconnect with Germany, which language you struggled to learn in secondary school? Have no fears: you can reach Stuttgart from Paris in only 3 hours and 40 minutes.
Rushing to take your train? What a pity… Many TGV stations are simply outstanding when it comes to their construction and their architecture. If you have a little bit of time before boarding your TGV train, just go outside and take a look at their exteriors: The Gare du Nord, Milano Centrale and Amsterdam Centraal are just a few of the network highlights and they are simply magnificent.
