Things to know
Who can buy a rail pass?Any person living in a non-European country can use the Eurail Global Pass. Please note that residents of Russia and Turkey are not eligible.
A seat reservation is a guaranteed seat on board a train.
Seat reservations are compulsory for high speed, international and night trains. However, as you will be travelling with a rail pass, you will only have to pay for a small reservation fee, as opposed to the usual standard fare.
Seats are generally available for reservation up to 90 days prior to departure and are limited. Book early to secure your seat!
We are not currently offering online seat reservations for high speed, international and night trains covered by the BritRail passes. You can book your seat reservation directly from train stations once you are in the United Kingdom.
Most regional trains do not require a seat reservation. Just hop on board with a valid rail pass, find a seat and relax as the train takes you to one of the many destinations served.
What is a Saver Pass?
A Saver Pass is a single pass listing the names of all people travelling together. It is offered to families or groups of 2 to 5 people.
- Adults usually get a 15% discount with a Saver Pass.
- Remember, children can travel for free with an adult. See conditions below.
Children under 4 travel for free. Do not include them in your booking as they don’t need a rail pass. However if you want them to have a guaranteed seat on board high speed trains or a bed on board night trains, you must make a reservation before travelling.
Children from 4 to 11 travel for free. As a rail pass will still be issued for them, please make sure you include them in your booking. For guaranteed seats on board high speed and night trains, please remember to book a seat for you and your children.
How to use a rail pass?
Taking local and regional trains allows you to explore at will. Simply board with your rail pass and choose any open seat. Reservations are required on most high speed, overnight, scenic, and international trains. We recommend always checking your desired journey for any specific seat reservation requirements.
Most rail passes include discounts and bonuses. Save money and make the most of your trip with your rail pass.
When available you will get hotel discounts, free entrance to museums, discounted boat trips and more.

Q. If I'm traveling through a country not included on Eurail Select Pass, can I add that country to the pass?A. Passes are only valid for travel in the countries covered by that particular pass. If you travel through a country not included on your pass, you'll need to purchase an additional ticket for that part of the trip. For example, if you travel from Germany to Italy through Austria, Austria is not a country on your Eurail Select Pass and will not be covered; you must purchase an additional ticket. If you have not purchased your pass please view our online maps to see if you will be travelling through a country you have not planned for.

- "Great Experience" Sarah m. 17/11/2016
Easy to use and understand Some countries were stricter than others in checking the pass Pass always needs to be filled out before journey starts Traveled for 3 months with my sister and had no issues at all The offline mobile app was a lifesaver and very reliable High season will always be high season, so sometimes booking in advance was a must Would do it all again with Eurail Global Pass if I could Value for money Convenience

- "15 Days Eurail solo adventure" Letchimi v. 24/10/2016
The trains in most Western European countries are well- maintained and provide a comfortable journey, especially the first class coaches. The worst train journey I encountered was the Tirano to Milan trip as the train carriages seem to be in need of a complete overhaul. As a global pass user, I was able to make use of the First class lounges found in many major train stations; my favourites are the SBB Lounge in Zurich and the lounge in Salzburg. The service was excellent and the lounge provided a place to rest and plan the next leg of my journey. I am so enamoured with train travel that come Spring/Summer 2017, I will be travelling again ( this time with a friend) to Europe and we intend to purchase the Eurail global pass. Such a comfort and convenience. Easy and simple transportation.
- "Couple Tripping" Kelly Li Ann k. 02/03/2016
The pass was hands down the best decision we made as it was convenient and really easy to use. Travelling by rail around Europe is the way to go for us. However, I believe if you are crossing many countries / places will the pass be affordable. We only gave a bad review on value for money because a 25% discount was announced 3-4 days after we've bought the pass, and we could not swap the passes for the discounted ones even though we've bought insurance. - "Global pass travel in Europe" Shankar r. 23/02/2016
I traveled in France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Netherlands in Oct '15. I bought a 15 days pass (traveled 12 days, 10 days and 2nd class promotional offer was not available). I took some day trains and some night trains. The trips were excellent and I had no hazels, except in one night train my ticket was not returned till the last minute, till my destination arrived. The trains were clean and punctual. The night trains reservations were easy. The booking staff were very courteous and gave good directions and train details to travel to my destinations. I also enjoyed my boat ride in lake Geneva (Global pass provision). The train time table - mobile app is very good and convenient (it is also offline which is very helpful). I feel it requires some update, because I could get a train from Zurich to Berlin, which was not in the time table. Overall my experience was very good. Looking forward to travel again. - "Europe by train Dec 15-Jan 16" Trevor i. 03/02/2016
Generally it was a very good experience. This was our 3rd use of the Eurail Pass and we have happily recommended it to others. There were a few things which detracted from the use of the Pass which were not an issue previously. We believe this to be due to the current security problems in Europe and not to the Pass Terms

The train ride onboard from Italy to Switzerland and finally to France was a good experience. Experiencing travelling in 1st Class seats. The sceneries along the way was nice and relaxing. Anyway, I think Eurail can provide a little more than just coffee Value for money Convenience
- "Great way to travel " Mui Hong c. 01/12/2015
Travelling by train is interesting. It allows you to enjoy the scenery much better. The train trips were generally ok although improvements might be needed in terms of cleaniness of the trains on some routes. I had not travelled cross country in Europe before via train so it was pleasantly surprising that it was relatively easy for me to do it. Value for money Convenience
- "Family Trip Europ" Karen p. 23/11/2015
Very safe way to travel. Italy trains were a challenge in that we had to pay extra for reservation fees on the high speed trains. In general all the train stations have easy to read explanations of train schedules and platforms. Almost every station has a luggage storage facility. Switzerland and Germany travel was easy with no problems or reservation fees. I am a single mother who traveled with 2 boys age 9 and 14 and never once did we feel unsafe. I would not recommend traveling 100% alone late at night. Value for money Convenience
