Montpellier, a pioneer of ecological urbanism

Montpellier is one of the most important cities of France in terms of population. It is located in southern France, in the very heart of the Languedoc-Roussillon region and about 12 kilometres away from the Mediterranean Sea. Montpellier is a fast expanding city, and it is one of best places to experience the art de vivre of the southern region of France. This makes Montpellier an ideal holiday destination as well as a renowned student city.

Montpellier is a pilot city for ecological urbanism in France. Discover its wide pedestrian area and blue decorated tramways. You’ll be amazed to learn that its trams are designed by artists including Garouste, Bonetti and Christian Lacroix. Montpellier can also be visited by using the bike along the brand new bike path that follows the Lez River. The bike is also great to visit vineyards or to go to the beach.

From a stroll in the old town, discover the lively squares of Place de la Comédie to admire the Trois Grâces fountain and the Opéra-Comédie, built by the architect Garnier. On the Place Saint-Roch, is the 19th century church. Afterward go to the picturesque district of Sainte-Anne. From there, go to the Musée Fabre where contemporary spaces sit comfortably alongside ancient buildings. Visit the new areas of Montpellier to see modern designs. Walking in the city with an eye on the numerous buildings designed by Christian de Portzamparc, Jean Nouvel or Zaha Hadid, you will also discover the neoclassical Antigone district conceived by the Catalonian architect Bofill. Take the tramway to the Port Marianne area to discover the City Hall and the design centre. End your stay by visiting the Castle of Flaugergues.

Take a break and lunch in Place du Marché aux fleurs by enjoying a fine cuisine on the terrace of Tamarillos.

Go to the Odysseum leisure zone or in the medieval street where everyone’s tastes will be satisfied.

  • "Travel from Montpellier to Par"
The trip was easy to book and very easily accomplished.
  • "Unavailable seat"
When I went to sit in my assigned seat there was another individual in it. The staff on the train did not move him and there were no other first class seats available so I had to sit in second class.
  • "Enjoyable Trip"
Trip was enjoyable thanks to the beautiful scenery.
  • "nice"
inside France, French language is the common ..not appropriate English instruction
  • "Traveling by train"
Love the experience. Train is fast, almost no stops between Paris and final destination. It runs quietly, on time and offers comfortable and clean seats with lots of leg space, options to recline, luggage storage. The only suggestions I would have was the limited food and drinks available for purchase on the train.
  • "Nice, at last!"
Nobody checked to see if we even had tickets. Could have rode for free if we knew that ahead of time. Quick, scenic, pleasant.
  • "perfect traveling"
Our traintrip was everything we expected : comfort, friendlyness of the personnel, punctuality, etc.
  • "CdG to Montpellier"
Absolutely the best way to travel for a first time visitor to France. Trains easy to find at CdeGaulle and easy to board. Just make sure you are in the right coach section, as train split off at Lyon, one section going east the other west! Great comfort and seats, restaurant coach handy.
  • "Brilliant."
The train was super fast and clean and loved it!! Will do it again in an heartbeat!
  • "great experience"
    Great experience at first class
  • "Easy and comfortable"
Trains were clean and tidy. Ran on time and smoothly.
  • "Very nice"
It was a great experience to travel by train, from Montpelier to Paris. My only objection is that the announcements were only made in French, which was hard for me to understand. I suppose the use of English should be considered.
  • "Cheap and most convenient mode"
It is the best mode of travelling in France. Travelled both in First and Second class, a comfortable ride. Use TGV trains for time saving and local TER trains for money saving.
  • "Satisfied"
I got a first class ticket at the price of second class. The train was in time and I appreciated the silence. The seat was broken though.
  • "Montpellier-Barcelona "
A wonderful experience, will rather use your rail service than fly in future
