While you're there

Karlsruhe, a 18th century german city near the french border

Built around an 18th-century palace, Karlsruhe has blossomed into a thriving university city in the Black Forest. Climb Karlsruhe Palace’s tower to see how the streets fan out from the palace gardens like bicycle spokes, giving the city its nickname Fan City.

The most famous place in Karlsruhe is the Pyramid’s Market. The amazing pyramid erected in 1823 is a symbol of the town and houses the gravestone of the count who founded Karlsruhe in 1715, Karl Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach.

Don’t leave the square without visiting the Protestant Church built in the 19th century in the classical style. You will feel like discovering a Greek Temple! If you are a botany lover, you will be wowed by the Botanical Garden located in the castle garden, close to the Orangery.

Karlsruhe offers a very bustling night life: head for the famous Hoepfner brasserie and its "biergarten" (beer garden) for an evening to remember.

  • "A MEMORABLE JOURNEY BY TRAIN "
I TRAVELED TO PARIS (FRANCE) FROM KARLSRUHE (GERMANY) BY TRAIN TGV. ENJOYED THE TRAVEL INDEED AND IT WAS A MEMORABLE; VERY COMFORT AND CONVENIENT THAN A FLIGHT. MOHAN KUMAR (INDIA)
  • "nice"
    so nice
  • "Paris to Karlsruhe"
TGV train was very comfortable and clean. Meal provided was good. Great way to travel and relax. Nice to choose English on Website and at Kiosks in stations. Great customer service people, too.
  • "problemtic connection"
evereything was great except the fact i had to run to the connection train, and if i wouldn't she probably leave without me.
  • "comfortable in spite of strike"
The trip had to be moved from the 19th to the 18th because of the rail strike. It caused a lot of hassle, but eventually the trip was very comfortable. We lost our reservation costs of Euro 18
  • "DEPARTURE INFORMATION"
Departure is quite tricky that it's time is very brief, less than 30 minutes. Very good in Karlsruhe, the departure area is in the platform itself while in Paris, quite grueling when 2 departing trains are on the same track that departing passengers has to run almost to reach the coach. Anyway, a very good experience for us novice tourist in the area.
  • "Ice rail"
There was no announcement re arrival,so had to rely on time train due at our disembark destination. Otherwise a very good trip
  • "Pekka"
The only minus was that for luggage there were not enough place. The train was very comfortable and in time.
  • "France to Germany"
We were impressed to see our reserved streets, just so enjoyed the comfort, the crew, the lunch and the experience.
  • "First part of trip to Paris"
We enjoyed the DB lounge waiting for our train to depart. The team were very helpful to foreigners and first timers.
  • "Superb Connection"
Chose this option to have time to make a connection from our TGV from Paris. With the timeliness of the TGV we should not have worried about having the extra time. The benefit was it was only a two train journey. Comfortable and clean. Great no hassle way to travel within Europe.
  • "Excellent Travel Option"
Preassigned seats with plenty of room for our luggage and trouble free boarding. Precisely on time. Easy to find coach and seats. Station layout and signage in Paris easy to navigate. Surprised by the meal served for breakfast as was not expecting this.
  • "Baggage storage"
There should have baggage storage service in small tourist city like Nimes.
  • "Too little, too expensive"
The train is about right, but the price is not THAT good. You can always take a S-Bahn and get there for half the price and the same comfort and convenience (and double the time, of course)
  • "Good trip!"
Comfortable and convenient thanks rail europe world!
