Description of operator
The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg’s railway network is run by CFL trains, the Luxembourg National Railways (Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois) and complemented by an extensive bus network.
At the centre of the country’s domestic train network is Luxembourg railway station, a terminus for all but one of Luxembourg’s CFL trains routes. The station also functions as the country’s international railway hub, with services into the surrounding countries, Belgium, France, and Germany.
Luxembourg station is connected to Paris (2h05) via France’s high-speed TGV network, since may 1999. Two daily InterCity trains connect Luxembourg to Basel (Swiss frontier), undoubtedly the art capital of Switzerland.
As Luxembourg is a small country, it’s easy to explore the whole. Travel on Line 10 to the North and the medieval castle of Clervaux or take Line 60 with CFL trains to Southern Luxembourg to the vineyards and wineries of the picturesque Moselle valley.
CFL trains have many offers for cross-border rail journeys if you book in advance. You’ll need reservations on high-speed TGV trains, but you don’t need reservations on domestic trains within Luxembourg.
